Neurofeedback, also known as Neurotherapy and EEG Biofeedback, is a ground breaking
technique that challenges the brain to better function. This powerful brain-based technology represents a breakthrough approach
to managing many educational and social difficulties with dramatic results. Think
of Neurofeedback as a personal training session for the brain. Training the brain to function at its maximum potential is
similar to the way the body is exercised, toned and maintained. Brain training exercises the neural pathways that allow the
brain to better function in many area. Neurofeedback trains the brain to choose more
efficient means of operation. This treatment method encourages self-regulation through operand conditioning. It
helps to reduce symptoms in a safe and drug-free manner. It is a non-invasive procedure and has no negative side effects.
Neurofeedback TrainingEEG Neurofeedback training enables a person to adjust his/her brain waves.
EEG brain waves in individuals with ADHD usually reveals excessive slow wave (theta) activity and not enough fast wave
(beta) activity during tasks requiring attention and concentration. Autism presents as an asocial
brain with disregulation of sensory, motor, cognitive and attachment processes. Neurofeedback stimulates
the brain's pathways to operate more effectively in processing the complex symphony of neural signals to function socially
and cognitively. Neurofeedback promotes the ability to self-regulate. As the individual
learns, he/she is adjusting the brain wave pattern. Gradually, the brain responds to the cues that it is
being given, and “learning” of new brain wave patterns takes place.
Results Obtained from NeurofeedbackSome of the benefits reported by researchers,
clinicians, teachers and parents of children who have received neurofeedback training include: - Improved listening and learning
- Enhanced self-esteem & decreased impulsivity
- Improved ability to follow through on homework assignments
- Decreased use
of medication
- Significant improvement in IQ and achievement test scores
Recognition of NeurofeedbackNeurofeedback meets the American Academy of Child
& Adolescent Psychiatry criteria for ‘Clinical Guidelines’ for the treatment of ADHD, reading disabilities,
anxiety, stress, depression and addictive disorders. As a result, neurofeedback always should be considered as an intervention
for these disorders by the clinician.
Duration of TreatmentAs EEG neurofeedback is a learning process, results are seen gradually
over time. Usually, individuals attend two 45-minute sessions per week. During the summer
a more intensive approach can be scheduled.
Long-Lasting ResultsFollow-up with adults, who, as children, received neurofeedback training
for ADHD, indicates that the improvement appears to be permanent in most cases. This is the primary advantage
of neurofeedback over medication in the treatment of ADHD.

Feedback from familiesADHD/ADD“In preschool my son was diagnosed with ADHD. He
could never sit still or listen to me and would get angry very easily. Medication only helped a little
and I did not like the side effects. We decided to try EEG Neurofeedback. After a number
of sessions he was calmer, would listen and did not have the angry outbursts. After the treatment, he was
placed in the mainstream program at school. He no longer needs special services”. A.A.. “Neurotherapy helped our son increase his self-confidence and focus better in school.
Because of the Neurofeedback program he has become a better student and overall, a happier individual.”
K.G. AUTISM“Three
weeks into Neurofeedback we started seeing improvement and it’s a year later and my daughter is doing well.
She can maintain eye contact and dialogue for longer periods of time. Her quality of school work
is improving. Now there’s hope for a brighter future.” T.M.
